I can't think of where that was - maybe down by the Beeches pub somewhere, or where the flyover is now? There was certainly a lot of spare ground there once.
Cycle Speedway was very popular with us kids in the district.
We had a team with a young lady manager. We worked hard digging out a track on a field but then they built prefabs on it.
We moved about 200 yds and built another track and posed wearing surplus U.S. Army helmets.
Many years later they built the M6 motorway over our field. I don't remember a Beeches Road recreation ground but it was a long time ago.
