Hello There,
I was wondering if anyone could identify this pub which once stood on the corner of these two road There's not alot left of it now but these pictures may help.

Any information much appreciated.

Thanks for the information. I just guessed it may have been a pub as it was on the corner. It had some lovely tile work in the entrance but sadly most of it has gone. Do you know when it closed?
 
The Elite opened in 1917 and closed sometime around 1950.
The letters on the front of the building were made of metal. In the mid 50s me and a few mates got onto the roof and removed the letters. We took them to " Raggy Allens" in Garison Lane and he gave us 5 bob for them.sorry about the picture quality.
 
Raggy Allens, how the memories flood back.....no questions asked, no receipts issued......

Until a month ago my business unit was in Burbridge Road, maybe a quarter of a mile from where these photos were taken, and I've driven past there many, many times and wondered about that lovely tiling.

I remember Raggy Allens too.........it's amazing how the memories just flood back at the mention of a name isn't it?
 
Surely someone could salvage those lovely art deco tiles.
Just left there, I bet the minute you tried to take them some so and so would come along all officous and ask what you were doing- sacriligion.

Hi there

I lived on the other corner of Crown Road and Bordesley Green (not Road)
at the beginning of 1967, and there wasnt much left of the Elite then. Do you remember the old chaps with hand carts who used to collect rags etc
for 'Raggy Allen'. There was one particular old boy who used to have a cart with 2 very big wheels, and he used to run like the clappers with
the cart in front of him and the shafts held high in the air

I remember one rag bone man who worked that area and lived on golden hillock road . his name was gallagher (gally bash ) us kids called him. he would take all our old rags and scrap and give us whatever we wanted of his cart in exchange.

John, you've set me thinking. I may well have a much closer look and may well have a mallet and bolster chisel to hand.

We used to live in Cattell Road by Raggie Allens, my husband was a builder and they would collect the bits of tat off building sites and every so often go and weigh it in there.
 
I lived on the corner of cattel and tilton road in the 1960s and remember that area so well . when i went to titlon road school i used to play on the bomb peck till my mom told me that the travelers would pinch me . but as i got older those old caravans that used to be there for some time(opposite the school ) were just normal folk and some of there children were at tilton road school with me.

Oh dear ! went on my way this morning armed with my Weapons Of Mass Demolition , to do a bit of scrumping of some of the wonderful tiles at what we now know is the Elite Cinema ,,,,,, But look at what had happened since Friday.!!! Im too infirm to climb over , got a feeling that an advertising hoarding will be erected ( with the tiles still behind ).
Oh for my young legs to return ,,,,,. .Took some other interesting pics in the immediate area ,and will post on the Bordesley thread.

Blimy that was full of trees and undergrwth for the last few years , they have had a clean up for some reason maybe building or an advertising hoarding as you say Max Bernie
 
You know me Lyn , im up for it , just let me know , the tiles look well attached ( they would be , not like now ) so bring a hammer jack , and we will get em off !!!! lol

On Lencops' 'Elite' pic, I see that a Warner Oland (Charlie Chan) film was showing. I think his last film was about 1938.
