Cross George Family

Ray Griffiths

master brummie
Hi help needed.

I'm researching details of my family and need info on my Granddad George Cross Snr. married to Emily lived in Sandy Lane, Aston He was a Motorman on BCT trams, No 2,78,79.

I believe he had a relation who was licensee at the Midland Pub in Saltley.

Any info with regards to the Cross family would be much appreciated.

Its funny you don't realize till the family has gone how little info you know about your family.

I've been told Grand dad liked a drink.

I remember him telling the tale that there was a prize at Miller Street Tram Depot for any body who could take a drink in every pub from Aston Cross to Steelehouse Lane and still be standing.

A little research has shown there was a pub on practically every corner.

Many thanks great website enjoy reading the items carry on with the good work, us Brummie have got to stick together these days e do't won' the breed to die out.

Re: Info George Cross Family

In the 1891 Census, 3 year old George S Cross, his brother Thomas H Cross (8), and sisters Jane H Cross (6) and Anne (2) are with their parents Howard G Cross (33) and Martha Cross (33) at 12, Bright Street, Aston.

Subsequently, later electoral rolls Give Thomas' second name as Howard.

Re: Info George Cross Family

The 1901 Census has George, his Father Howard, brother Thomas and sister Anne at 3 back of 126 Long Acre, Aston (close to Nechells). Also there is 14 year old 'visitor' Edward T Williams.

There has been a death recorded in Aston of Martha Cross, in the first quarter of 1892.

Re: Info George Cross Family

George's father is probably: Howard George Cross, birth registered 1st quarter 1858 at Wolverhampton, vol 6b page 440.
His marriage to Martha Morris is registered at Aston, 1st quarter 1880 vol 6d page 427.
The certificate for this marriage will give their ages, and their respective fathers names and occupations.
