Criterion Plates, Paper and Film Ltd

Heartland

The Criterion was a firm which supplied photographic materials to the trade and had different titles over the years. Their Stechford premises in Albert Road lasted until 1970, but suffered a serious fire in 1969. They moved their business to Bletchley where they were involved in photocopier supply.

Does anybody have any recollections of the fire in November 1969 ?

I remember it well. I worked in the test room at the time; I think the fire happened overnight on a Friday. Half of the main building was destroyed. The test room staff were moved to the research block across the courtyard. I remember the meeting when we were told about the closure and the relocation to Bletchley. I don’t know how many took up the offer.
