Cresswell

lazarte

Brummie babby
I have a baptism record for John Cresswell (my g-g-grandther) at St. Martins on 5 Apr 1790 in which his father was named as Thomas Cresswell, and his mother as Ann. I have been unable to find a maiden name for Ann and I would appreciate it if some kind soul would look up the Parish Register to see if there are any records of the birth and marriage of Thomas Cresswell as I have not been able to find these in the Church records. As I live in Cornwall I cannot do this myself!

I have looked at the St Martin's records from 1784 through to 1795. Sorry, there is no marriage and no other baptisms to Thomas & Ann either as far as I can see.

In IGI, have spotted the marriage of Thomas Cresswell & Ann Phillips on 14 Jan 1787 in Kingsbury, Warwickshire (Extracted record). Also Thomas Cresswell & Ann Bate on 20 Sept 1790 in Wolverhampton (submitted, so not totally reliable)

I have also found a baptism for Thomas Cresswell at St Phillip's, son of John and Mary, bapt 15 Sept 1762 - could this be your g-g-g-grandfather?

I've been to the library this afternoon and checked the St Phillips baptism entry. The entry for 15th Sept 1762 simply says "Thomas, son of John and Mary Cresswell" I didn't think to look for a marriage, but I've just checked IGI and there isn't a John/Mary marriage that would be the parents. Personally, I think I would take a leap of faith as Thomas called his son John.
By the way, there are a lot of baptisms for children of William Cresswell and Mercy around the 1760s - at St Phillips

I have been through the Kingsbury link, and turned out to be a no-no. As was Thomas Cresswell and Ann Phillips - I have quite a big file on that family!

Thomas and Ann Bate would have been married a few months after John's baptism, but I will look into it.

Thomas at baptised at St. Phillips in 1762 looks interesting, and I will follow this up. Thank you for your help, Leslam, that has given me something to work on - I will look into this too. Best Seasonal wishes, Lazarte.

Thank you again Leslam, I have noted all this - maybe I'll get over this brick wall yet!

Best wshes, Lazarte.
