Re: Florence Vera Cragg

Hi Barrie,

Vera must have been born arownd 1895 to 1908. She was the sister of Leonard Horace Smith " Tiger Smith " my grandfather who was born today on 30 september 1908. She had sisters Edie,Maude Alice?
Regards.

Re: Florence Vera Cragg

No Florence Vera's, but 2 Florence Victoria's, one 3rd quarter 1897 Aston vol 6d page 456: one 1st quarter 1901 Aston v. 6d p. 268.
Just 'Vera Smith': One 3rd quarter 1908 Aston v. 6d p. 324 (too close to Leonard - unless they were twins!) and one 4th quarter 1910, Aston v. 6d p. 198.

Happy 100th birthday to your Grandfather!

Hi All,

Now I am not sure about the Florence. She was called Vera.
Perhaps a sensus during 1901 and 1910 will reveil more.
Her father was Horace Joseph and her mother E.M Smith.
The adress was County of Warwich. Aston Manor no 9 Lovers Walk.

Regards.

Re: Florence Vera Cragg

Hi Jan,

Your Grandfather Len (Tiger) Smith was my Grandmother, Maud's brother, which makes us 2nd cousins! For many years we have wondered about the missing strand of our family, so I couldn't believe it when I saw your post.

I don't know how much you already know about your Grandad, but he was very close to my father John, so I know quite a lot. Len came over to the UK in the1970s and died here in the Erdington area in 1977.

I have traced our ancestors on the Slater side back to Wednesbury in the 1881 census, I think George Slater (Len's Grandfather) was born in Darlaston around 1849, but originally the family came from Abbots Bromley.

I have spent four years trying to work out where Joseph Smith (Len's other Grandfather) was from, but I think he may have been from the Wednesfield area. His Grandmothers were Elizabeth Brown and Alice Brown - I have some photos I can send you.

Hi Don, Thank you for your letter. I will appreciate any photo`s of my grandfather and his family. My mother will be gratefull as she lost contact with her father in 1972 when he left South Africa and returned to England. When the Salvation Army traced him he had already passed. Please e-mail any photo`s, letters or documents to me at [email protected].
Will appreciate.
Kind regards.
Jan Volschenk.
