Coventry Standard 17th July 1943

skylark

Proud to be a Brummie !!
Hello folks, another appeal for help with an article from the Coventry Standard - if this is possible? The name is Mansel James R Evans & the article is titled "Military". Many thanks. Skylark.

Why is the title Military relevant ? As Janice says there is no mention of anything like that name with the three mentions of the word “military” in that day’s issue of the Coventry Standard. Do you have any further information ?

Found out why. It comes up as a link on Ancestry tagged as "military".
There is a comment that " the facts in this collection were found using AI technology and may contain errors".

Me again -yes I assumed it was Military related due to what was listed on Ancestry. Certainly this is the chap I am interested in though! Many Thanks. Skylark.

The article was a long list of names.
The exam was the Principles and Practice of Metallurgical Operations.
His name was under "final grade section F"

Thank you Janice, that is something I can add to my info on Mansel! It also means I can now start looking for him on the 1939 census living in Warwickshire instead of in Wales. I really appreciate your help. Skylark.

hi skylark there are quite a few on the 39 but as long as you have his date of birth you should locate him

Still working my way through them all - do have date of birth but no match as yet for him. Grrrr! Thank you.

Another pair of eyes would be welcome - date of birth (according to his death info) is 6th September 1924 born in Wales. I have still to discover his parents names. Thanks again for taking the time to help. Skylark.

GRO online has a birth record for Dec quarter 1924 for a Mansel Roydon James Evans...mothers maiden name given as Davies. Birth Place Llandilofawr. (Don't know if Dec quarter registration might indicate later than Sept birth or merely when birth was actually registered?)

Dec qtr is when it was registered so between Oct 1st and dec 31st. That could include babies born in September. The cheapest way to get a copy is ordering a PDF copy for £8 from GRO. This would give parents names.

Entering dob 6th Sept 1924 exact only on 1939 reg gives 3 names none are Mansel.
So either his dob is different on the reg or his name is still redacted for some reason.
When and where did he die?

found this 39 but there is a roydon evans and mansel evans on it ..born different years..living in llwchwr glamorgan both working down the mines..looks like 2 different birth dates for roydon..

I think these brothers are both registered in Llanelly with mmn Evans.
whereas Mansel Royden James is reg as

the dec reg is consistent with a birth in Sept as given in post #12

I have found 2 Mansel's who have the Mother's maiden name given as Davies & I am almost inclined to reject both the ones on the 1939 simply based on the DOB's not being a match. I am doing this research on Mansel as a Birthday surprise for a member of his family & am waiting to hear from his daughter with info with regard to his parents names or any siblings - which should help to perhaps find him on the 1939 if he is still in Wales. His life is an open book following his marriage in the 1950's. Thanks again for all your help. Skylark.
