hi pol i think this pub could have been demolished very early possibly around the 20s or 30s..growing up around that area i can well remember that on that spot was a greengrocers it was not a brick built building but a wooden one think it was called willets..here is a map showing the pub...i did have a photo showing a long view of villa road and you could just see the edge of the pub but i cant even find that one now...
hi phil thats ok and yes the burton was actually in hunters road or little hunters lane as it was once called..the building dates back to the 1860s and it still there i am pleased to say although as you would expect it is no longer a pub...off topic i know but as we are talking about the burton thought you may like to a photo of it and another pic i took of it not long ago..Sorry Lyn - I got confused with which building you meant on the picture - I think the one I posted on post #8 is the one next door to it.

Both the electoral rolls and some of the directories list it as the Goulbourne Arms. the electoral rolls list it as a pub in 1935 and the directories up to the 1936 edition, so it probably ceased being a pub 1935-36 .
hi curly and thanks for that newspaper snippet i shall save it..hunters lane became hunters road but was never renamed villa road...the two are totally seperate...as half the pub was in villa road and half in hunters lane/rd it could be that in 1879 hunters lane was the given addess...
hope you find out where the name goulbourne comes from it is unusual so the pub could quiite easily have been named after someone of that name who maybe owned some lane around that area looking at old maps may help you...just a thought..
