Mr Bills was great. Used to go there in the 80's Saturday lunchtime then get chips & sit in pigeon park waiting for Costers to open of an evening.Great to see all the views on the Costas. It was one of the pub round on a Friday and Sat night for me and friends Gary and co. In the mix was Costas, Mr Bills, ? a couple in between but always ending with Bogarts and Golden Lion? bottom of hill St....as I recall, lol. 1970/80's dare I say the best years of my, lol. It seems pretty clear that a few of the people posting would have been rubbing shoulders in these pubs in the 70's. I find that fascinating. Great Forum.

4 pints for a quid… now it’s more like 4 quids for a pint!I used the Costa mid 70's until mid 80's. 4 pints of Double Diamond £1 and a great jukebox.
looks like the plans for priory square will still go ahead...eventuallyThere has been that threat for years.
I've been going to Costers for over 30 years and every so often there'd be the 'well, it's all going to be redeveloped in 2 years time' rumour & nothing has come of it.......yet!![]()
Also confirmed today by the owners of Priory site that their plans for the area are to go ahead and they are working closely with Birmingham City Council - What a coincidence that the announcement ties in with so called safety checks and fire risk assessments closing it down.Sad to see those shops closed so suddenly. Places like The Costermonger, The Cabin and The Oasis market will be replaced by something new, with the city centre becoming increasingly unrecognisable from what it was. I see the 'new neighbourhood' will include more than 1,000 homes and office space. How many more homes does the city centre need? Who is going to live in them? Why do we need more office space, when so many office workers expect to work from home, more often than in the office?
We went to the Hippodrome last night to see "Only Fools and Horses" and my wife remarked how sad Station Street and Smallbrook Queensway looked, with shops boarded up and graffiti everywhere. No doubt Priory Square will soon look much the same.![]()
