My great grandfather had a shop at 177 Broad street a cook and confectioners in the early 1900s I think, would anyone have any more details about it ,and I wonder what is there now ? thanks

All of that area has been redeveloped, 177 is about where the jobcentre is now see here,
a far cry from what it used to be...

thanks Lloyd not much point in me going there now then when was it re developed ? any idea

I can't find a confectioner at 177 in the early part of the 1900s (up to 1921). It was either a nurseryman or a dressmaker. In 1932 it was a jeweller. There was a confectioner , Frank Pilling, at 173. Are you sure about the number ? If so it must be somwtime 1922-1931. No 177 is between bishopgate st and St Martins St . On the map the post office (PO) on the corner of St Martins st is 170 and the building on the corner of Bishopsgate St is 181.

Hi Mikejee 100 % certain on the number but not the date after a disagreement here its more late 1800s he died in 1902 but its odd 173 being a confectioners

Think I've found the confectioners at 177 :
1862 it was not a confectioners
1868-73 Vale James, confectioner (listed as no 117 as numbering changed between 1873-76)
1876 Arthars Benjamin, confectioner
1878 Whately, George , confectioner
1879 Whateley George & Miss Ellen confectioners
1889 Avery Samuel Charles, confectioner. Not listed 1883 or after, though that doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't there as there was no-one at all listed at 177 (as opposed to 177A) in 1883-1888.
