Coming a cropper

My Canadian relatives also laugh at me when i use the term to "come a cropper" as to fall over, i wonder where that term came from?.
 
Brumgum it was prior to Coronation street wasn't it?. Hope you watch it or you will think I'm going round the bend the loop or the twist. Jean.

I used to watch it but find it a bit barmy now, did you see my Betty Driver post the other day?, here it is again anyway(I know who Roy Cropper is, he married the sex change woman), see what i mean Barmy!.
