My great Grandmother used to have a second hand shop at 20 Sun Street, Balsall Heath? from the 20's to the 60's so Im told. Hannah Mason/Waldron/Geddes

Also a coal yard in Summer row?...

Any ideas anyone??!

( I thought I,d have a break from the Smith's while I,m waiting on my certificates to arrive!!)

Thanks All

Bernie,
The following info comes from four Kelly's directories:
In 1921, No 20 Sun Street was occupied by John Geddes, coal dealer, but also by David Thomas Waldron, greengrocer. The property was on the north side of the street, about two-thirds of the way from Bristol Road to Spring Street, if you have an old street map.
In 1933, No 20 was occupied by Mrs H Geddes, shopkeeper. (No mention of coal or of John Geddes)
In 1939, No. 20 was occupied by Jack Geddes, motor scrapper, and No 21 by Mrs Hannah Geddes, shopkeeper.
There is no mention of No 20 Sun Street in the 1950 directory.
It is a bit too late in the early morning to follow up the Summer Row lead now, but I will look into that later.
Peter

To follow on from Peters listing, In 1940 Kellys shows Jack Geddes, motor car scrapper still at no 20 and Mrs Hannah Geddes, shopkeeper at 21. No 20 disappears again for 1944 and 1950.
Can't find any listing of any coal yard in summer row in that period

Thanks guys...much appreciated you have filled in quite a few gaps for me..I had David Thomas back to front! Jack Geddes was apparently a bookmaker? in later years...I know he will still around and about Birmingham in the 80's. I think David went to Australia..but thats another search..Fingers crossed my certificates will be here tommorow..they are coming from Sandwell, but I dont want to do anymore research on the Smith side until I am sure I am on the right track...Once again thank you the people on this site are so kind...regards Bernie

Thank you sooooooooooo much!
I'll try to find out how this site works and see what I can come up with without bothering everyone!
Thank you very much - what a start!
Janet

Let's hope it's not hereditary cuz..what have you been up to..lolxx

Hi Tresario

I remember a Mr Henry Beckers Geddes from the early 1960s. He was a second hand motor dealer in Moseley. I believe the company was called the G.T. Motor Co. I wonder if he is related to you?

Kind regards

Dave
