In the picture below, I assume it is Watery lane from kellys and Universal motor spares, but can anyone confirm that the pub to the right is the Coachmakers arms?

Had the yard used be a transport co. by the name of Stensons Mansells G.B.Night owned by Mr Harry Gibbons?. Jean.

Jean

I remember a Gibson Demolition, but that was further up the road on the other side.

Phil

phil.you could buy almost any thing in that pub, universal motor spares i had many of engines off them.

Pete

Pity I wasn't so lucky, mind you I got a full refund. Did he change over to commercial dismantling and move to Golden Hillock Rd by the canal at the back of the Sydenham Pub. Or was that someone else.

Phil

phill,i dont know that.and not all the engines were ok.it is annoying.when you fit em and they are worse than the one removed.

Pete

Its just that we bought a diff and some half shafts for a Bedford 16 tonner from the chap in Golden Hillock Rd in the late 80's and I thought it was Universal Spares. I suppose I could be wrong.

Phil

phil.i will ask my mate he is up on that kind of input, unless any one else can answer in the meantime.16 ton bedford, what model?i had a tk great tool,it had a leyland 330 engine, wish i had kept it,most of the the lads i knew used that pub.it was handy the other was in garreson lane,by the park.i cant remember the name."phew this bio fuel smells of fish and chips"

did you buy that new tractor you,ve got there now Phil?
steering seems to work OK but is it a runner.
regards dereklcg.

I think its Pete who is the tractor fan,

Pete

I am no mechanic, but I thought that particular KM was a 460 engine if I remember rightly the 330 was more suited to a 12.5 tonner than to a 16 tonner. Or so my uncle who looked after the mechanical side of things told me.

We ran Bedfords for over 35 years we had all types. The ones I can remeber were Tk's TM's TL's KM's as I said I had little to do with mechanical side of things. I just had to find the money when one went wrong or we had to buy a new one.

Phil

Phill that would have been Mr Gibbons yard in the early 60's. He owned large blue lorries and did sub contracting for Halfords. If I remember the inside of the pub it had old fashioned tiles on the floor. Jean.

Jean

I never went in the pub, I walked past it a few hundred times when I was a kid.

I only remember Gibbons because he was a demolition contractor. There were three or four down Watery Lane. I think the only one still going today is J.Brown.

Phil

Thanks Phill didn't know the area as a child just worked there for a while. It was the first pub I went into with Mr Gibbons son. I think I had a tonic. Jean.
