Clock dealers in Birmingham

MGray

knowlegable brummie
One of my ancestors was a Thomas Rudd, born Feb 1809. He became a clock and watchmaker in Dudley, starting at Castle Street in 1836, then in Wolverhampton Street from 1841 to 1850, and in 1850 in Market Place. He must have had a good deal of competition: eleven other clock and watchmakers are listed in Dudley trade directories by the end of the 1850s.

My query is this: does any member know where I might try to find a watch or clock made by Thomas Rudd? It doesn't have to be working, or valuable in any way, except to me... Are there places in Birmingham that specialise in this kind of "old junk" please?

Just picked up on this query. See last sentence. Can anyone suggest Brum dealers ? Or anyone with Thomas Rudd clocks ? Viv.

Looks like it is only auction houses that ever have these for sale (dread to think of the price). A tough nut to crack this one I think.
