having spoken to my mum whose farther & mother ran the pub she seems to think it was on clifton road

The Clifton Arms was on the corner of Clifton Road and Upper Thomas Street. But I think it was demolished in the sixties to make way for the Aston Expressway.

I stand to be corrected, but I think the 'Clifton Arms' is on the corner of Clifton Road and Ladypool Road in Sparkbrook.

Wasn't the pub on the corner of Clifton Road and Upper Thomas Street called 'The Golden Lion'?

You are right Icarus

The pub gained its name from Clifton Road. My Grandad used to play the pianno there in the 1920's.
