Hello all

I've been steadily going back with my family tree for twenty years only to find a big surprise thrown up by the 1911 census.

My great-grandfather, Thomas Charles Clifford, born Railway Terrace, Nechells in 1871, was believed by his son (also TCC) to have died in the Boer War whilst serving with the Royal Welch Fusiliers. However, he appears on the 1911 census living with his wife Annie in Aldershot, by which time my grandad was also in the army. TCC senior's service record shows that he had rejoined the army for WWI and was finally discharged in 1919, whereupon he returned to Brum presumably (address on his service record is Church Road, Northfield) without Annie who my mother vaguely remembers stayed in Aldershot with the rest of the family.

He eventually died in 1949 at Selly Oak Hospital with his death being registered by his sister-in-law. At that time he was living in Alcester Rd and was a retired window cleaner.

He had brothers Edward, William and James and a sister Ada.

It's a long shot, but I'm hoping to find anyone connected with the Cliffords who may be able to shed some light on what happened. He had three other children after my granddad, Ada (1899), John (1902) and one we think was called Mary.

Anyway, living in hope!
