Clerk in Orders (Church of England)

I am certain some knowledgeable person will know about my question....I have just obtained a death certificate of a family member on which it says.....'Clerk in Orders' (No Cure of Souls)...............has anyone any ideas please.

We assumed he was a vicar as he was referred to and titled as ....Reverend........

From the local historians glossary of words and terms.

clerical titles. Clerk — a scholar or clergyman.
Curate q. v. — one who has the cure of souls.
Rector q.v. — one who has the parsonage and great tithes. Vicar q. v. — one who does the `duty' of a parish for the person who receives the tithes.
Incumbent q.v. and Perpetual Curate q.v. are now termed Vicar.
