I am looking for any information about my Grandfather, or his father/mother etc.
My Grandfather is
Albert Ezikiel Clarke, born 30th August 1907 - died June 1975 at Dudley road hospital.
His mothers name was Charlotte Clarke (don't know maiden name) and his father was Charles Clarke. They owned fish and chip shops, one in Farm street, and one in Lennox Street.
My Grandfather owned Wilton Street Coaches, in Wilton Street, Lozells.
He married Ethel Winifred Allcock in May 1931, they had one daughter Hazel Marina Clarke born November 1934.
If anyone knew my Grandfather, or has any info about Wilton Street Coaches, please get in touch.
Thank you
Julie Nunn

Hi Julie

Have found your grandfathers birth details, if you send for his birth cert it will have parents names including mothers maiden name and their address at that time. If you then post the details on here we could look for their marriage and we might even find them on the 1901 census.

Re: Albert Ezikiel Clarke

Hi Julie Nunn.
Ezekiel Clarke was my maternal Grandfather He was the father of my mother Ann Clarke born 1911 in Hockley, who was the younger sister of your Grandfather Albert. My Mum used to work in the Fish & Chip shop before she married William Sleigh, my father.
Albert's father Ezekiel Clarke married Charlotte Hopkins born 1881. His father was also Ezekiel Clarke born 1876. He was married to Ann (surname unknown) born 1853. His father was George Clarke born 1804 who was married to a Sophia Knight born 1805.
I remember clearly Wilston Street coaches. I have to say that my memory of the coaches were not good; I seem to recall that they were somewhat old vehicles.
Best wishes,
Don Sleigh

Hi Don re; Albert Ezkiel Clarke

Hi,cl
I'm replying on behalf of Mom Hazel, who is the daughter of Albert E Clarke,

Did they call you Mom Nancy?

Do you have brother William and a sister Jean, whose husband lost both his arms in an accident at work.

It would be great if we were related in some kind of way, My Mom doesn't know too much about her dad's family and it would be good to know more.

She has just told me if its correct Jean moved to Cornwall/Devon.

Re: Albert Ezikiel Clarke

Hi Julie,

Yes to all of that. Mom was often referred to as Nance, mainly by the Clarke side of the family. I have the impression that my father wasn't keen on the name; I recall in the distant past that he had a go at my cousin David Lowe about it. (David's dad was Joseph Lowe married to Mom's sister) Therefore, we are clearly related; but don't ask me put a name to it. 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousins; who knows!

My sister Jean lives in Exeter now; it's me that lives in Truro, Cornwall. Unfortunately her husband Ken (without the arms) died 4 years ago, so Jean lives on her own now. Mom died in 1999 and Dad William Sleigh in 1989. For your information I am the youngest child of Ann Sleigh and the last of 14 (yes 14) children. When I say youngest I mean I'm now 58!!!

I don't have masses of info on the Clarke side as I concentrated on the family name Sleigh. But what I have is available to you. If you go on to GenesReunited, I have posted everything I know on that site. Unless you are a member already, you will have to pay a small amount to join as I did. If it's a problem, you can send me your e-mail address and I will list everything I have on the Clarke side.

As we are now related, my email address is donsleigh@hotmail.com

I look forward to speaking with you again. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Best wishes and Happy Christmas

Don Sleigh
