Hi everyone,
I'm a new member and this is my first post so feel free to direct me to resources, or relocate post if I've chosen the wrong forum.
I was born at 1 back 131 Church Lane, Aston in February 1961 and lived there until I was around 3 years old. When mum and dad moved out we still visited every week. My mum Ann Stephenson was also born there as was a cousin Rob. My nan Hilda Stephenson (later Percival) rented the rooms there, from the war years until the back-to-backs were demolished in the 1960s as I understand. Neighbours included the Perry family who were close to nan and mum, some of whom I've met on trips back to the UK over the last 40 years. Mum worked at the Queens Pub for a time and I'd be taken to work there and placed under the bar when nan was at work and couldnt babysit me while mum was at work. Our family moved to Australia in 1968 with nan following in 1970.
I'm a keen family history researcher (when time permits) and have a great interest in the history of Birmingham.
I've found some great images on this website, and other locations and I'd be particularly interested in any information about that end of Church Lane, Gladstone St, Queens Rd, the Queens pub, etc. If there are resources, links to sites, etc., to get me started I'd love to explore them. In the meantime I'll enjoy perusing the forums to find information and check images, etc.
I've included a photo of myself which I believe was taken in the back courtyard at 1 back 131, then a photo dad found online (maybe this site?) showing the section we lived in (131 was toward the back of the block, with the shop being opposite the Queens Hotel as I understand it).
Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning more about my birthplace over the coming months!
