Hi,

Does anyone have any info on the Church Inn, Lichfield Road, Aston ?
The Inquest for my GG Aunt was held there in 1885.
She was eight years old and had been thrown to the ground by a boy coming home from school on Tuesday and she was found dead in bed on Friday morning. The coroner recorded a verdict of 'natural causes' even though she had a recently ruptured bowel and bladder which he admitted could have been caused by the boy.
Ooh if I could go back in time and get hold of him, I'd give him a good clip round the ear !!

I have got a book with birmingham pubs in but a friend borrowed it and forgot to bring it back, but said they will bring it back on saturday, when I get it I will look for you.

This is the only picture I can find.
Good job Mariew reminded me.

Postie to the rescue, thanks postie, my husband said the pub has been demolished now. Sarah that coroner wouldn't get away with that nowadays, that's terrible.

Hello again sarah I got my book back today but I'm afraid it wasn't in there, sorry. I must say what a grand building it was.

Hello Sarah, The pub in the picture is actually the Church Tavern on junction of Lichfield Rd/Waterworks St. One of my old locals. I do believe some Historical group took an interest in it back in the 70s- Try the Victorian Society. It is of course now demolished-If I can get any more info-will let you know. PS. It was a listed building- I remember there being some problem locating the last owners before it was eventualy demolished- so whoever does the listing of such buildings should be able to help.

Sarah, here are a couple of originals from my own collection which may be of interest to you. One from 1989 and another from 1999 before demolition

Hi Everyone,
Many thanks for your help and the photos too, What a shame they pulled such a nice building down. This is a great web site.
