Would welcome any information about the parents of Charles Allen, born c. 1816 Birmingham, married 1836 at Edgbaston to Ann Best.

There are a couple of possibilities on the IGI:

Charles Allen born 26/11/1815, baptised 07/07/1816 St. Martins, Birmingham. Parents James Allen and Mary

Charles Allen born 05/03/1816, baptised 10/06/1816, St. Pauls, Birmingham. Parents Thomas and Sussana

1841 Census:

St Pauls, Birmingham

Charles age 25 Brasscaster
Anna age 25
Emma age 2
Ann age 5

Many thanks suemalings for that info and therein lies my problem! How to decide which James of the two may be the father. Am I right in thinking that a marriage parish record from 1836 does not contain details about the father of the groom? Difficult to know how to progress my search if that's the case.

I would go for thre father being thomas.
The other Charles b. 1816 wife was Fanny and they had a son(firstborn) James this is often an indication of the fathers name.
