Here is a photo new to most of you. It was featured in an article in the Evening Mail in 1981, where someone looking into their family tree discovered some glass plate negatives from when her great uncle Sam Carey was landlord.. There was another

photo of people ( the youngest about 16) she believed worked there and it was suggested that older readers might recognise themselves, or others. This was being a trifle optimistic, however, as, sometime between 1908 and 1912, the pub changed to a temperance hotel run by a Mrs Mary McCready. Sam Carey may have been the last landlord. He was certainly there in 1908
