CARTWRIGHT -- handsworth, Aston, Birmingham

The search goes on!!

Frank Edgar Cartwright (b 1875) and Florence Cartwright (b 1880) nee Smith. Can't find in 1911 census.

They are in 1901 census, and son Horace is born in 1902.

In 1911 Horace is in household of his aunt Maud Alice Clarke (nee Smith) and husband Arthur Clarke.

His sister Gladys (b 1899) in is household of grandparents Edwin Smith and Emma Louisa Smith.

All consistent with Gladys later saying the children were orphans by around age 12.

Except that Franks father George Dawson Cartwright states all his children are alive in 1911 census.

Gladys marries Sept 1918 and states her father deceased on marriage cert.

Florences father Edwin states 2 deceased children on 1911 census but I do not think Florence is one of them. Emma and he had 9 children, one died by 1886, and there is one I've never found -- but an uncharacteristic 4 year gap between 2 of the children in between census is where I think a birth/death occurs.

Cannot find a death index record for either Frank or Florence. Have purchased many with no hits.

Has anyone got any ideas where I can try looking for the death of Frank or Florence, I suspect between early 1911 and 1918??

Possible Frank died and Florence remarries, haven't really looked at that angle yet.

Thanks

Noticed on the 1901 census that Frank's wife appears under her first name Honoria?
But as you say, they don't appear to be included on the 1911!

Hi,they are at 7 Oakwood Road,Smethwick, with daughter Doris May aged 4.

Thanks, nice try. I already checked that one and I guess I was remiss in not saying that both Frank and Florence were born in Birmingham (although Florance may say Kidderminster). The birth years are pretty good ... but by 1911 they were married 12 years. Also by then they had had (at least) 3 children, with one having died in 1901.

This is probabaly this marriage in SEP 1906 QTR

Frank Cartwright m Shelley Florence Aston 6d/463

I'd love it to be our Frank, but I've no reason to think he would change his birthplace from earlier census :-( But I should pull that marriage cert o be sure (mayalready have, i've got heaps of them)

Thanks

Hi

Frank Edgar Cartwright Attestation papers say he signed up for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, reg no. 4571 on 23 Jul 1895, occupation is Groom. He was aged 18 years and 6 months. Discharged 16 Aug 1898. Father: George Dawson Cartwright, 4 Brookfields Road, Birmingham. There are 6 images for his service records. If you would like me to let you have them, IM me with your email please.

Presume you have the marriage: Frank Edgar Cartwright - Honoria Florence Smith 1899 JFM Bham 6d 199

Hello Suzanne, thanks, yes I have this and also his papers from time in naval training unit, and all the usual certificates, census etc 1901 and earlier. He and Florence fall off public records after Horaces birth. Its not impossible there could be more children, but Gladys never mentioned any other than her and Horace.

Thanks.
Don
