The firm has gone by 1962
In 1940 the shop was run by a Mrs Frances Jackson, and Cardell’s presumably took the shop over.

Re: Cardall Cooked Meats

Mike brilliant thank you. Elizabeth Cardall was originally Elizabeth Lucas so she may be related to Charles. This is my daughter in laws family and they were told there is a connection to Joseph Lucas. Thanks again Mike..xx

They had 4 sons - can give details if required. Joseph Charles died 15th June 1930 in Totnes, Devon and Elizabeth 19th July 1944 in Birmingham. I am a Newton descendant. Re: Cardall Cooked Meats

Hi - I hope I'm still able to contribute to this thread...Joseph Charles Cardall was my grandfather; he married Elizabeth Lucas, the daughter of Charles Lucas, who was the nephew of THE Joseph Lucas. Charles Lucas owned the cooked meet shop at 46 Summer Lane, and he gave it to his daughter and her husband as a wedding present. The business was best known for supplying Barrows, on the corner of Corporation Street and Bull Street. Joseph Charles was not very enthusiastic about the hard work involved in cooking and preparing the meats, and he diversified the business into the dining rooms. My father told me many harrowing tales of the effort his mother had to put into the business, and my cousin still remembers visiting the shop. Sadly, we have no photographs of the shop, so if anyone reading this knows of the existence of one, I'd love to hear from them.

Wendy - we must be connected - please get in touch.

GeoFred - us too - ditto.

MikeJee - thanks for providing all the information on the shop through the years.

I hope to hear from you all.

Re: Cardall Cooked Meats

Hi Maggie, Would you, by any chance have been born at 611, Kingsbury Road, Erdington, be the third child, and the only daughter? If the answer is yes then, 4th cousin, once removed - I'm very pleased to know you. We could have a mutual contact in Australia too if you are the person I think you may be. Looking forward to hearing more from you - geofred (Susan)

Re: Cardall Cooked Meats

Hello there, 4th cousin once removed! Yes, I was born at 611 Kingsbury Road, the only daughter of David & Kitty Cardall. I've no doubt we do have a mutual contact in Australia, as all my cousins and their families are out there; sadly only the three youngest first cousins survive. Would you like to contact me by instant message. I'm looking forward to discussing our mutual family interests. BTW - do you know who Wendy is?
