Pete try DOVE. I have to as many of the scented ones give me an alergic reaction. Don't laugh but my Pete can't use certain soaps especially lifeboy it starts him off itching, How about pears that used to be for delicate or sensative skin. Jean.

hi jean i am not laughing.i have the same prob.any thing scented gives me probs.as do some food products.they make me itch below the skin,it is very irritating.lifebouy is ok,so is simple.but hard to find now days.

Love the smell of Carbolic Soap!
"Sound As A Pound" at Castle Bromwich used to sell it but I haven't been there for about a year so I'm not sure if they still do.
{before anyone asks, I haven't stopped washing, I use coal tar now}

mw0njm, I needed unscented soap and was able to get it from several chemists shops ie, Boots, Lloyds and independant chemists. Len.

I remember my dad coming in from work and the first thing he would do was to roll up his sleeves get a brush with carbolic on and scrub his elbows. I too loved the smell Jayne. Jean.

Thanks for the memory! my dad always used Lifebouy ... huge block of it sitting in the soap dish lol we kids had to use coal tar which i still hate!!!

I thought it had been taken off the market as it has carciogenic contents!Remember the smell though,when I did my nursery nursing traing we had to scrub the bathroom floors with it every evening.

the shop that sold the red soap for years as now closed down.thats why i asked.i am trying to get a replacement.

Pete - I was at the back-to-back houses today and they had loads of the stuff in the old brewhouse........ Just a suggestion but they must buy carbolic from somewhere, so it might be worthwhile contacting them and asking?????

In Birmingham Pete. My daughter in law is taking a class there before they break up I will ask her to make enquiries if the children give her chance. Jean.

The smell (its not an unpleasant one) of pink carbolic soap always reminds me of my infant school, it was what we had in the toilets to wash our hands with.

Sorry to be a bit of an ignoramus but what is carciogenic contents please, and how did us olduns manage to survive such things in our days gone by?
Green Puritan Washing Soap was another one I was bathed with in the old tin bath as a kid and that used to smell pretty strong as I remember.

Dove soap as I understand it was neither acid or alkali, a neutral ph.

It's not particularly risky mike. I wouldn't have any worries about using it. Its the Health & safety brigade again going to extremes. In one of the hazardous materials books( which list everything, harmfull or not) . They once included water and under the section of "what to do after a spillage" it said " wash away with copious amounts of water"
That was changed after the ridiculousness of it was pointed out.
