Hello,
Does any one know why births were registered to Cannon Street Meeting House-Baptist, Birmingham? I have come across a couple in my family round about late 1830's. LDS definately says 'birth' not 'christening'.

Hi Mand: There is a great deal of information on the Internet about the
origins of the Cannon Street Meeting House in Birmingham. After reading through some articles from Birmingham History going back two centuries, my conclusion is that Cannon Street was one of the
first major Baptist Meeting Houses in Birmingham for what was known as Particular Baptists.
Particular Baptists built a large Meeting House in Cannon Street in the mid 18th Century. They did not believe in infant baptism and only adults who had been fully baptized were acknowledged. The Cannon Street Meeting house was a large place and whereas they didn't baptise infants they may have registered their births.

You can search on Google for more info. There is a picture of the Cannon Street Meeting house and even a medal.

Hi Jennyann,
thanks fo the reply - i had lloked on the iternet and, as you say, found loads of info on the meeting house itself, but must have missed the bit about infant baptism.
Thanks again
Mand
