Canadian Links

Wow Bren! Thanks so much for those links. My grandmother's sister, Harriet Armstrong, was born in Newfoundland in 1863 when her father was stationed there with the Royal Artillery. I have just found her baptism on your link - fantastic!!

Hi,

The Canadian websites are very difficult to search and many records are just not available.. the best one I found was islandregister.com .. without the people using this particular website then I would not have found out about my G G Uncle (middlemore child) ... the people on there helped me trace his life after he arrived in Canada . I have a copy of the marriage Licence he applied for (no marriage certificate available/they didn't issue them) , I will get it scanned and then posted on here.

I was very interested to learn about the Canadian Links as I am trying to get in touch with my late Cousin's Grandson who posted a lot of information about my family but he has not been on line since 2004. I will now try and trace him though this new link.

I was born in Kings Heath Birmingham but now live in Staffordshire.

A very dear friend (who is not computor literate) has asked me to try and find out about a member of her family who sailed on the
RMS MEGANTIC to Canada arriving on 24 May 1928.

His name was JOSEPH HENRY JONES b. Cornwall 1903.

He was a farm labourer and stayed in Canada for 6 years.

He sent a postcard to his Mother in Cornwall stating that he had arrived in Canada safely on 24 May 1928 but doesn't say where.:(

I really don't know where to start looking. I have tried passenger lists but can't find his name or the ship for 1928.

Rumour has it either his Father RICHARD HENRY JONES was in Canada (he was missing from his home address in1891, his wife stating he was abroad so he made have been in Canada establishing a farm out there)
or another family member GEORGE MITCHELL was there and JOSEPH HENRY JONES went out to the farm.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.........please :)

I know from the past how super people on this site are

Hi Rowan,

so far I can tell you that the Megantic arrived in Quebec on 22nd July 1928 after sailing from Southampton, so far all I have found is Joseph Henry Jones born approx 1894 (occ Farmer) travelling on that ship on that date.. I will keep looking

I have also just came across this one : Jospeh Henry jones born approx 1905 (wales) arrived 24th MAY 1926 sailed on the "BALTIC" from Liverpool to Halifax Nova Scotia

Hi Rowan (again)!

I cannot find any record of that name arriving in Canada etc during May 1928... has your friend got the correct date/ship if you Google RMS Megantic it will give you details of Megantic sailing from London to new York via Halifax (Nova scotia) 1928 and then late in 1928 route changd again from London to Montreal ..

Hi Kaz

Thats the one i found in my first post back to Rowan, I used Ancestry and search brought back Joseph born 1894, after looking again at the original image it is difficult to say what his age says, it could say either 36 or 26 it is slighly smudged !

Rowan also said that the Jospeh her friend is looking for arrived in Canada in May 1928 ... I cannot find any lists for the Megantic arriving in Canada ports for that month.

WOW!!

Thank you so very much Kaz and Dianne you are both stars :)

My friend is so grateful and thrilled for your help.
One mistake I made in my first post was.

It was JOSEPH HENRY's GRANFATHER RICHARD JONES who may have gone to Canada as he was living abroad in the 1891 census and RICHARD was a miner not a farmer.
.

I don't suppose there is anyway of knowing about any census in Canada for 1891 is there?

But thank you so much again you have bought light into my friends life.......and given her an interest as she has been poorly of late.

Hello Kaz
I am new member searching for my cousin's family from when she lived in Niagara Falls. Your posting re Canadian Links has been a wonderful help.

William Charles Hill (My Uncle) after his wife died in England he immigrated to Walkerville Canada with his two daughters and his second wife, He and his 2 Daughters moved to Niagara where Beatrice married William George Keetch who was from Musknoka Ontario they had 2 Children, Florence who died when she was 4 and a son Clarence, I am trying to trace Clarence's descendents as I found a message on The Birmingham History site from 'Zito' with details that his grandmother had told him and he is Beatrice,s Grandson.
Her sister Winnifred (or Winifred) married David Liversidge Coupland. No further info about them so far.

However that posting was in 2004 and he hasn't replied to me.

So as you can see I am very grateful for any help.

I shall be 80 next month so although I keep very fit time is of the essence.

Hi Rowan,

there is indeed an 1891 census of canada, I will have a look later ..

Elizabeth... I will also have a look for you too !!

keep you both posted :)

Dianne,
Thank you so much I am really grateful. If you could have seen my friends face you would be very pleased, she was nearly in tears when I gave her the details of what you have found, bless you :)

For Elizabeth,

I notice that on Ancestry.ca there is the marriage record for one of your ladies:

Name: William George Keetch
Spouse: Beatrice Horence Hill
Father: William Charles Hill
Uriah Keetch

Unfortunately i don't have access to this but if you don't have it then perhaps someone else could look it up for you.....

There were also some border crossings for a William G Keetch.

Hi Kaz

Many thanks for your info. this is just what we (2 friends who are helping me, due my ripe old age of 79, 80 next month but still going strong.
During the research we have found a Noon in our Tree, this was my aunt who was a Noon and married my Uncle - Charles Hill and he married Hilda Noon they had one daughter Betty who lives in Birmingham. There are Noons in that line in Canada who have been in touch with of my helpers by telephone. Let me know if this helps.Once again many thanks for your help.

I have just found out that my cousing Beatrice Keetch (nee Hill) emigrated to Niagara Falls USA

Beatrice married William George Keetch 1923 Niagara Falls USA and died there in 1995.

I am trying to trace her son Clarence William Keetch (Ketch) born 1925 died?

I found Zito, who is/was a member of BHF had posted a message in 2004 regarding William Charles Hill - my Uncle and Beatrice's father.

Zito is/was Beatrice's grandson and I am very anxious to trace details about him whether he married and had children.

I have not received a reply from him.

Are you able to tell me the best links to USA records for Niagara Falls USA please?

Regards

Elizabeth
