Can you see them?, the women, the kids and the old,
Huddled together in the dark and the cold.
Can you see them?, the children all crying in fear,
Clutching their mothers as the death camp draws near.
Can you see them?, the camp guards emptying the trains
Herding them forward ignoring their pains.
Can you see them?, the innocents, naked and cold,
“Able bodied on this side, on that, sick and old”
Can you see them?, the gas chambers, ready and waiting
What did they do?, what caused all this hating?
Can you see them?, the bodies all piled up for burning,
The ovens, the smoke, the stench, stomach - churning.
Can you see them?, the kids asking “what did we do?”
And the parents explaining “it’s because you’re a Jew”
Can you see them?, the gold teeth, the glasses, the shoes
All that remains of six million Jews.
Can you see them? The statesmen stood with serious faces
Saying “never again, we’ll protect the worlds races”
Can you see them?, The Hutus, Sudanese and the Kurds
Their looks of relief at these comforting words.
Can you see them?, my friend you say that you can?
Well if so you should weep at the cruelty of man.
