Hi all, I have just checked back in here to see if there is any more info on the pub and I am so pleased to see that it has been restored and re-opened.

It is special to me as my great grandparents lived next door, but what is just as important is that we don't see anymore of Birmingham's history demolished and we celebrate what we have. I am hoping to visit the pub soon and I would like to see some of the live music.

Thanks to the landlord for communicating with the forum, and thanks again to the forum for providing me with some fantastic information.
 
#1, what is the name on the canopy next to the pub, anyone know? Also the name on the van? I have tried blowing the pic up, but I can't make anything out. No problem if it is not possible to get the info, I just thought i would ask.

Hi Kat. I think the name on the van is Anachem. If so, it’s a company that specialises in pipetting - for laboratory work. The other sign (on the building with canopies) seems to be R..... Developments Ltd. Can’t read the full first name.

Maybe someone could do a Kelly’s lookup please to reveal more. Viv.

Viv, thank you, appreciate it. I look forward to the Kelly's look up, I am sure there is enough expertise here to look up the name. Anachem, would that have been a Birmingham firm at that time? Sorry for all of the questions, but it is so interesting.
 
Afraid Kellys only goes up to 1973. the building then seems to have been divided into two, with Cheryl's cafe farthest from the PoW, and summit transport next to it, with a turf accountant directly next to the PoW. At that time Anachem were not listed in Birmingham

I have just been told by someone that was a barmaid there for a couple of years in the mid eighties when Nancy and Paddy ran it - that when the ICC was being built The Prince was going to be demolished!! Following the outcry, not least from long standing regulars (thank god for them) including the actors from the rep and members of B'ham Symphony Orchestra, the plans had to be rejigged so the pub could remain....If it wasn't for them and other people it would certainly have been demolished. Im sure many people have lots of wonderful stories of the days it was run by Nancy and Paddy!?

hi peter thanks for that info...does not really surprise me that this pub was earmarked for demo because as most of us know the powers that be have very little or no regard at all for preserving our historical buildings...i am just pleased that for now the pub is safe until of course the ground will be needed for another eye sore of a building :mad:
