Hello all, newbie here. During my family history research, I've discovered that my grand aunt worked as a Club Stewardess in the 456 Club from 1939. Does anyone have any info on this Club? I've Googled it but can't finding anything. TIA

Welcome Jo. Do you know if the club was in Birmingham ? Was your grand aunt from Birmingham ? How do you know she worked at this club? These are the sort of questions that will help our members track any information down and help you. Viv

Hi Viv. I know she was working at the club because it states it on the 1939 England & Wales Register. Her husband Howard G Hurl was Club Stewart and Annie Violet Malone was a Club Stewardess. I think the Club may have been in the Molesley Road area?

hi jo its not the 456 club...456 is the number on moseley road where they lived..if you look at the whole page of that 39 register the word club is written against the number of a few addresses namely those of the ones who worked at a club so i can see why you thought that the club they worked at was called the 456 club bit confusing and i dont know why they would do that...finding out the name of the club they worked at could be difficult...annie only became a malone when she re married in 1962 but you most likely know this...it is possible no 456 moseley road is still standing and i would think that whatever the name of the club was it would not have been that far away as a few people on the 39 register worked in clubs and quite possibly the same one...looks like howard died in 1954 in surrey and also seems that luckily his ww1 service records are on ancestry but again you most likely know all this

456 Mosely Road in the 1940 Kellys (which probably refers to 1939) is listed as the Caledonian Corks Social Club (South Birmingham district. Alfred Palser secretary)

If they are on the 1939 register I would think so
Will have a look and see where it was
thanks mike...cant get google maps to work but there is a loyal caladonian corks social club on alcester road which could be where they moved to so the club could still be going

Yoi cannot read it very well, but 456 is definitely the one in red/pink. Possibly that's accommodation for the staff of the club next door. The club buildings marked are 452, 454. I am away from home for a few days so do not at the moment have access to kellys to see if 452, 454 are listed. If not then probably the club encompasses all three

Looks like the building's been replaced by a low level garage/building - Hadens in this view. Viv

A friend's dad was a member of the Caledonian Corks Club and used to take us but it was at the top of Golden Hillock Road, (near the "Cov") not Moseley Rd. So there was more than one.
