One of my relatives was at St. Josiah's orphanage from 1911 until he left in 1915 when he was aged abt. 14 years old. His name was Edwin R Caldicott. I have no idea what he did when he left, and wondered if any one knew what boys of that age did when they left the orphanage? Were they found a place to live and a job? Or was there some sort of follow on place for them to go. I have Edwin's second World War Service records and know that he was married in 1929, but nothing of those missing years between 1915 and 1929. Does any one have or know of anyone who could help me please.
Regards Joyce

There seems some evidence as to where he lived from the online electoral rolls. These only cover the Birmingham area.
In 1935 and 1939 Edwin Richard Caldicott lived at 5 Chestnut terrace, poplar road with Catherine Elizabeth Caldicott. In 1945 and 1950 Edwin R Caldicott and Catherine E.Caldicott are listed as at 5 back 35 Poplar road, which are almost certainly the same house , but the address has been changed. This often happens with back terraces. Unless he sometimes called himself Edwin James Caldicott, I cannot find him in the earlier rolls. Possibly he was outside the Birmingham area of that time .Mike
