Burnaston Road Hall Green

very ornate lamphouse mike..no idea what the globular things are...maybe we could speculate and also what is the sign for thats on the lamphouse looks like a time table of sorts but too high up for the public to read so maybe something to do with lighting up times..looking at todays st view taken from this end of the road..matches up with the arched doorway on the right in your photo and st view now

The sign on the lampost says KEEP LEFT. There is the possibility that the globes referred to are in fact electric lights fitted in case of failure or replacement of the gas supply. Birminham, in Hall Green for instance, was noted for electric lights in newer parts and was favoured over gas.
