Burials MIs at Warstone Lane

Exiled Brummie
I wonder if anyone can help me locate the Monumental Inscription from the following:

Two Robert Shaddock's, father & son, were buried at Warstone Lane cemetery one in 1854 Register no:2491, the other 1858 Register no:6940, No ages listed but there would appear to be 2 in the grave and a Monumental Inscription.

Regards

Clarkie

Clarkie,
email warstonelanecemetery@bmsgh.org
It may cost£4 but if it is an MI 'buried' in the 1960's - It looks like it it6 is from the index. They have photograpghed them and send you a copy of the Burial register entry + MI.
You could also go to Handsworth cemetery (Open 7 days a week) or email handsworthcem@birmingham.gov.uk , but Genealogy enquiries usually take a week or so and can cost £11 per name.
I was in there today - typical! Next time I pop in I'll try and find the site of C13 for you.

WL_C_13_28may_be_a_touch_nearer29_Looking_towards_Vyse_St.JPGWarstone lane - approx site of C 13 Shaddock family grave. Headstone buried about 18" below the surface. View looking towards Vyse St, from just behind the JQ Conferance centre. Grave to left is Horace davis, behind that is John Postgate, Surgeon Leading reformer against Food Adulteration.
Graves are slightly staggered in this area so are not exactly alongside each other. Excuse lighting it's pretty dark in there at 1930hrs!

Clarkie,

From Probing it seems like the memorial may still be in 1 piece, many were knocked over and broken.
The Inscription should remain legible, however since WL is C of E and Consecrated Ground, you cannot dig to expose the memorial without a large backhander - sorry fee to the Bishops Office, and a wait of several years for a reply which may not be positive - A request was made for the memorial to harry gem, and 2 years after payment no decision has yet been made!

However, the acting registrar of WL in the 1960's made rough notes from all the memorials he 'laid down'.
These handwritten fullscap papers exist at handsworth cemetery, as does the final typed version. They are not in any particular order though and can take hours and hours to find a specific entry - hence the reluctance of Handsworth to do this and the cost & time delay involved.
However, the bmsgh photographed the records, along with the Burial Registers, and are therefore available fromVyonne Harrison at bmsgh as mentioned for a very modest fee.
When Mr Pike recorded the inscriptions, he kept to dates & names mostly, and did not fully record poems or lines of scripture, etc

Hi Clarkie

As Brian knows I have a similar problem with my Heptinstall grave - it's all so frustrating, isn't it?

A few years ago, I emailed the grave number to Handsworth and they sent me the screen shot of a page of a database containing details of the inscription. Now whether the database is complete or not ewas not clear, but it might just be worth emailing them to see.

I would love to sort out my grave, but the long-winded process doesn't seem condusive to even starting the process!

Well Les, I've just had a reply from BMSGH, they seem to have the records, I'm just about to mail my cheque for £5.
Fingers crossed that the information is legible.
