I have lived in this house for 38 years and when we moved in the nieghbour on one side was a Walter Smith Butchers shop manager, his name was Dennis Buckley. He started work at the age of 14 at Walter Smiths shop in Spring Hill. Then he was called up for action in WW2. He went into the Marines for the duration of the war. When he was de-mobbed he went straight back to Walter Smiths. A fortnight later he was made up to manager of the Bearwood shop where he ran a very successful shop until his re-tirement. He was always a very ardent Aston Villa fan and was at one time a fully qualified football referee. If he went out for a pint he would normally go to Barnes Hill Working Mens Club and enjoy a game of snooker. Sadly Dennis is no longer with us having died a few years ago.

Trevor it is lovely that you remember your neighbour with fondness. Connie who died about seven years ago was like a second mom to me and a nan to our twins. Do you have any photo's of Dennis?. Jean.

Hello Jean, I asked Mrs Buckley if she could loan me a picture of Dennis and she said she would. When I get it I will post it.

Trevor just come in out of the garden. That would be lovely. I have the most lovely memories of Connie and guess what? her best friend was a relative of our Bren [Youlden]. A Ruby Youlden. Take care. Jean.
