Ragga visited all the places you show often as a youngster(all that is except Porthcawl).

Went to Ilfracombe last year ,what a disappointment so scruffy and run down.

Went to Cornwall also,it never fails scenery wise but you will go a long way before you here a Cornish accent in the shops, even the Car park attendants are from London.

Went to Ilfracombe some years ago when walking wasn't a problem but i would not advise any body with these problems to go their its very hilly

Mossy

I agree with Mossy about Ilfracombe. Its quite a drop from the town to the harbour area. I last visited about 8yrs ago before my late mrs became a wheelchair user but she found it hard going. I had to leave her at a hotel bar and go fetch the car.In between times some chap was chatting her up. Did wonders for her self confidense .

Around Devon again, with Dartmoor, Plymouth and Exeter

Cheers Alberta & Arkrite for your honest appinion about Ilfracombe , last time , we stayed up the Hillsborough end.
Cheers to Motorman & John 70 .......... not seen them before.
ragga .......

Hi Ragga

Sadly Ilfracombe is,nt the place it used to be it need a lot of TLC to make it the holiday centre it used to be.

It never recovered after the railway closed down although if you remember the railway station was hell of walk up/ down from the main town centre and harbour.

I live not far Ilfracombe The trains had to banked up to make the top and then used as a brake to prevent the running away into Ilfracombe station, they did have a run away.

A bit of information for would be holiday makers to Ilfracombe next see's the start of a passenger Ferry from Ilfracombe to South Wales it came in a couple weeks ago as public show, it is hope the evently there might be a car ferry running.

Let's hope this is the start of a revival of great holiday traditions, with Tunnels Beach, Torrs walk, with great views.

Ray

We like to have a walk up the front there Ragga most mornings, a lot quieter though at this time of year than on your postcard views.

Once too far for a day but easily done now, it's round the coast a bit to Bournemouth and Boscombe. Originally in Hampshire but now in Dorset.

a pretty likkle place called Clovelly , a must visit if you`ve not been there before .
ragga ......
Ragga went to Clovelly a couple of years ago found it to be a beautiful place but very commercial you had to park your car in the 1 and only car park at the top of the hill and pay an entrance fee just to walk down the hill to the sea front. no pace to go if anyone who has trouble with their legs. Dek

Clovelly 1958.The High St. was Upalong coming up and downalong going down.
They used to have donkeys, for anyone who didn't fancy walking up.

In Clovelly nowadays you can ride back up in a Land Rover bus but you have to pay the driver, it's not included in the admission charge.

Ray Don,t know about a donkey i,m not into animal cruelty a shire horse would be a little less risky.Dek

Mike,
What admission charge?.
Dec,
It's a long drop,if you fall off a shire horse, I would rather stick to shank's pony.
