they were living 3 back 87 william street, aston manor in 1911. arthur james was 25 and a universal grinder, selina brookes was 24 and a dress hand, both b. bham

they had no children at this point although in 1922 aston there was elsie m. jacobs born with mothers maiden name brookes. there may have been others previously.

i have found ww1 service records for a george brookes of 208 great russell st. whose father was george and brothers william and charles. i presume this must be a cousin living nearby.

Thanks so much Shera,i knew they were in William St in 1911 but to find Elsies(my mother in laws)birth was just great. Which website did you get the birth info from ? Were you at the Stags Head what a great afternoon , if yes im sorry i didnt get to speak to you anyway thanks again, Angela.

Thanks Ladylinda ,i have come across this family before but i was looking for Joseph and Emily so i probably ignored it . Nevertheless im sure its my husbands family as his aunties Lydia and Leah are there Joseph and Emmas birthdates are correct and so is Selinas, his grandmother plus correct area. Maybe Emily prefered to call herself Emma although shes Emily on her marriage certificate . Doesent family history drive you nuts sometimes, anyway thanks so much for your help. Were you at the Stags Head, great afternoon, thanks again,Angela.

hi angela, i subscribe to the ancestry site which in my opinion is the best by far. i was at the stag so sorry i didnt meet you. there were so many there that i couldnt get to speak to everyone. all the best, shera

Hi Shera, great news , yesterday i recieved my mother in laws birth certificate and its correct, thanks i couldnt have got it without your help.Angela

Hi Angela. I've only recently joined and I was just looking through some old posts and noticed your interest in the Brookes family.
Lydia Brookes (1875-1954) is my Great-Grandmother.
If you think the Emily/Emma difference was confusing wait until you try researching Warrad. Every generation tends to spell it slightly differently.

:grinsmile::grinsmile: Hello Little All,just got your message and im bristling with excitment, have i found someone from this family at last ? ,if i have we will have so much to talk about. The Warrad name is correct,Emily married Joseph Brooks in 1869 All Saints Birmingham,i have the certificate. Selina Jacobs nee Brooks their daughter was my husbands grandmother she used to talk about Lydia and Leah and one of them used to visit,it must have been Leah as i think you mentioned Lydia died in 1954 and i only knew the family from 1966 onwards. I hope i have found a connection and i cant wait to speak to you,Angela.:grinsmile::grinsmile::grinsmile::grinsmile:

Do you have Birth certificates for Joseph and Emma? If not I can let you have copies?
I'm looking forward to sharing the information I have about Lydia and her 'families' with you. And hearing about her sisters family.
I have only recently found out where and when she died and where her grave is after years and years of searching.
:D:D:D

:) This is great news,i would love copies of their birth certificates and i can send you a copy of the marriage if you havent already got one. I will try to send you an instant message with my phone number ,what a great website this is with great people who have helped me and my sister Linda so often in the past. Its also extremely entertaining and interesting with lots of characters and friendly banter going on especially on the run up to the "meet ups"see Canal Boat Trip a couple of weeks ago:wave::grinsmile: My husbands nan Selina was a GREAT LADY who i had the pleasure of knowing for 7 years before she died in 1972. It would seem she had some fall out with her family when she married and never wanted to speak of any of them except Lydia and Leah so goodness knows what happened to the rest of them i hope i will soon find out. My husband Dave and i always go for a curry on Friday evenings but we will be back by 9.30-10.00,we have an ansaphone,(business) so you could call and leave your number and i will call back if its not too late,Angela.

Hi Little Al,im not sure if you received my message last night so i have I.M.D. you again with my phone number. I should be around most of the day but please leave a message if no one answers (its a business line) thanks Angela
