Watching the cricket at the moment and note that there is very little cricket on the forum though there must be plenty of cricket fans out there.

Did any one else see Brian Lara reach his world record 501 at Edgbaston?

I had a 2 ticket membership at the time and invited my mate, a Durham fan, for the day (a Monday as I recall) but he declined as he had only come back from holiday at the weekend so I went on my own with no great expectations although Lara had already reached his century the night before. There were only about 100 spectators but as the day wore on more people arrived and by the close of play it was packed!

Durham could not stem the run rate and although Lara got most of the runs he was well supported on an easy batting wicket. Keith Piper got his own record score and the pair broke the all time Warwickshire 6th? wicket record stand.
By early afternoon different records were being broken every few overs and although the game was dead as a contest everyone was enthralled.

At the end of the game a huge queue formed at the scorecard window behind the pavilion as we all waited for our momento of the day as we knew it would be the last time we would see somebody hit 500. Thanks for the memories Brian.
