Long shot I know...but here is hoping. would anyone have access to electoral rolls or postal rolls for Small Heath region? I am looking in particular for ELIZABETH BRADY born c 1928 in Ireland, working in 1946 for a 'car assembly' place. in 1946 her address was 731 Coventry Road and she lived with her SISTER - PATRICIA BRADY and her AUNT - MARY McKAY (Mary's permanent address was 28 Richmond Hill, Rathmines). In 1951 Elizabeth was last known living at 40 Greens Lane, Small Heath, not sure where her sister or aunt were living. Family in Australia desperate to make contact with Elizabeth or her family.

Can't see anything for those names at those address - probably Mansel Road and Green Lane - though not all ERs are available online.

There are a couple of marriage registrations for an Elizabeth Brady in Bham (1951 & 1963) but without further info no way to no if either are relevant and one is to a Williams, which would make it very tricky.

Thank you so much for looking, it is greatly appreciated. We suspect Elizabeth went home to Ireland c1951 (as that is what is noted in family file, but we know there was some fudging of records so.........) but will keep at it. Can I ask, was there a major car assembly place in Birmingham c 1946, like a factory or something.

Birmingham and the surrounding area was and still is a major centre for the motor industry, so as well as the main car building plants, there would have been many smaller factories manufacturing the components all around the city.

It's not a great map but this is from about 1940 (a link to the original below it), Green Lane is underlined in pink, the top end of Mansel Road (it's much longer) is underlined in green and Whitworth Motor Accessories is underlined in blue. No idea if she worked there but from the junction of Green Lane and Mansel Road to Whitworth's was about a mile.

Wow, thank you so much for this, it is greatly appreciated. Certainly gives me something to start working with. We know Elizabeth was scraping together every cent she could, and living in some tough conditions, still not sure where here sister and Aunt were by 1951. But will keep at it. I really really appreciate your help, thank you so much for your kindness.

There were the Rootes group & Singer producing cars, car parts on the Coventry Road, Small Heath,
close to Mansell Road.
