BOTT Joseph Taylor

rowan

Born a Brummie
I have just found out that a distant Great Uncle, Joseph Taylor Bott died as a prisoner of war in Lager Lazarette Crossen 11/04/1918 & is buried in Berlin South Western Cemetery Stahnsdorf Germany. He died from Tetanus (he was in RNVR DRAKE).

He lived at 9 Green Lane Terace Small Heath with his wife Alice (nee Clarke) later at 4 Redvers Road, Green Lane, Smal Heath.

I would dearly like to know how long they had lived at these places & also if there were any children. I believe they married in 1911.

Is there a way I can trace their movements from one address to the next?

Many thanks for your help.:adoration:

Hello Rowan, for one of our Heroes Joseph T Bott WW1 who gave all for us,,,the folks on here will do their bit,,,,,

Joseph T Bott married Alice Clarke in the June Quarter of 1911, registered Aston volume 6d page 761, if ordering Cert.

Ivy M Bott born June Quarter of 1912 reg Aston vol 6d page 461
Leonard E Bott born June Q of 1913 reg Aston 6d page 790
Winnie Bott born June Q of 1918 reg Aston 6d page 572,,,All children have Mother Maiden of Clarke.
Joseph at home sometime in 1912,,hence celebration & Winnie arrives in 1918 (Gawd bless em )
All for now, Cheers John Y

Hi again Rowan,, a little more info & possibilties,

You can trace their movements through the Electoral Rolls at www.midlandshistoricaldata.org
the 1912/13 Birmingham Roll should have them & there are further Rolls for you to search.
The site recommended above is a pay-per-view but not expensive,,However other folks on Forum may
be able to look up some Elec Rolls for you ?

They probably won,t be on the 1911 census(taken in April)together as they married later in 1911
but can be searched individually &/or checked out with info from their Marriage Cert if you buy it.

As Joseph was killed in 1918 Alice became a Widow with 3 Children,,a tough life ahead for them !
Therefore she may have married again quite soon after (Very common/acceptable for a War Widow)
There is a Alice Bott married Augustus N Letts registered Dec 1919 Aston vol 6d page 936
There is a Alice M Bott married John T Atkins register Dec 1924 B,ham vol 6d page 456 (both possibles ?)
Good luck J

Joseph was listed at 9 Green LaneTerrace and 67 Aston Lane in 1912.
1920 sees William Henry Clarke,Harriett Clarke and Augustus Nathaniel Letts listed at 4 Redvers Road.
There is a Alice Bott married Augustus N Letts registered Dec 1919 Aston vol 6d page 936
This would appear to be the correct marriage found by John.
Augustus and Alice lived at 433 Somerville Rd 1927-1935. Ivy May Bott was listed with them in 1935.Prior to that they were listed at 25 Blake Place, Blake Lane,Saltley 1922-1925.
1939 sees them listed at 46 Gillscroft Rd with Winnie Bott
By 1945, their daughter Irene has married and is listed at the property with them and her husband
Births Mar 1922
Irene J Letts mmn Clark Aston 6d 848
Marriages Sep 1942
Irene J Letts married William Stanley Birmingham 6d 830
By 1960 just the Stanley family are listed there.
Hope this helps?
