My Wife's Gt Grandfather's Occupation in the 1901 Census is listed as Bookmaker Race Mechines

I'm not sure if this is a miss-spelling as I can't find any mention of it on the web. I do know from speaking to my mother-in-law >:D that he did work on a race course. He was well educated and they told stories of how he would come home with and drop vast ammounts of money on the kitchen table. However on other days he didn't bring home a penny.

The family lived in Nechells Park Rd so I don't know what racecourses would have been close-by in those days - If anyone can help shed some light on this I'd love to find out more.
