Bomb Disposal.

Hi All,

I have just finished reading a book called UXB (Unexploded Bomb) and it opened my eyes to the great bravery shown by the men who worked in bomb disposal. 750 died during WW11 whilst trying to make UXB, s safe. Several were awarded the George Cross or George Medal. Thousands of the bombs were defuzed and the men worked day and night to make therm safe.

It is estiimated that about 20,000 are still lying thoughout the UK. They are thought to be safe unless interfered with. A large bomb was discovered about two years ago when the foundations for the new Olympic Stadium were commenced to be dug.

Many more are lying in Germany and other parts of Europe that were dropped by the American Air Force and the RAF. It is alleged that the Americans dropped more 'dud' bombs than the other participants put together. However, the bombs were not necessarily 'dud'. Most were deliberately fuzed so as to explode later and especially whilst being worked on.

I feel that all bomb disposal personnell should have been decorated.

Old Boy.
