Blues Defender Alec McLure

Exiled Brummie
Great piece in this month's edition of Brummagem by Paul Meereis on his Grandad, Alec McLure who played for the Blues before and after the First World War. (I can forgive him his momentary aberration when he flirted with the lot in Aston in 1923!)
Looking at the state of the Blues' defence today I think we could do with someone like him now! He's the big bugger on the left of the photo.

Great photo Dave, that prove's once again we the Blue's where the for runners of European Football and not the Villa even though they where very lucky to win the European Cup once. The only final they ever played in Abroad. Not as many as the Blue Boy's!!

Beamish, I may still go down on my Season Ticket but it doesn't mean I forgive!!!
Bob, yes, when it comes to Europe we certainly were the trail blazers for Birmingham. Did that lot from Aston get over there once?
In the article there's a newspaper piece about the 1920 - 21 side that went 23 games with only 1 defeat. Oh for that now.

David. Just picked up on this. I put a bit on about Alex McLure some time ago, in answer to someone wanting to know who he was. If you stay in the Brum Sports thread, and go to page 5, under the heading "WHO IS THIS " you will see what I mean. Barry.
