'Black Boy' Staniforth Street

In 1891 this pub was being run by John McInnes and his wife Christine. I would love it if any information about how long he was there could be found please. I cannot find them on the 1901 census, but I believe Christine died in 1911. Any photos of this pub would put the icing on the cake, if there are any.

Hi Shortie

In 1901 31 Staniforth Street is now what looks like the "Magpie Inn" and the publican is Howard R Lockey.

In the 1890 Kellys shows the landlord as Isaac Henry Williams, and in 1892 as Frederik Morton. By 1895 it was Charles Frederick Wilson and 1896 was John Killian. So it doesn't look like a pub that people stayed at for long ! I am a bit mystified by Suzanne's 1901 census. I agree it says Magpie inn. but Kellys for 1903 still says Black Boy. Maybe Magpie in was a local nickname, though i would be surprised if that was put in the census

Well Staniforth Street is in the Gun Quarter, so perhaps it was a bit rough and therefore no-one wanted to stay long! I have since found out he may have died in 1898, so have to do some digging. Thanks Mike, as usual, you come up trumps.

Cheers

I can't find my lot in 1861, not this lot anyway, they came from Scotland. Before Staniforth Street they were in Livery Street,

I take it that was Henry Nicholls. He was the landlord of the Black boy (called that then also) in 1862

That's him, he is in one of the the trade directory's as a button maker in Moland street, and vict at the black Boy.
he later moved to the 'The Old Peacock' in Aston St.
