Bishop Street

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know which parish or church 6 Bishop Street was in in 1886. The birth certificate I have for my grandfather says he was born at 6 Bishop Street, Registration District Birmingham, sub-district of St. Martin Birmingham, in the county of Warwick. I always assumed that St Martins was also the ecclesiastical name as well, but I can't find anything about him there. So, maybe he was in a different church or parish and his records may be found there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,
Don Clarke, Glendora California, USA

The Ecclesiastical Parish & District for Bishop street for that year is St David's.

Hope that helps... :)

Hi ALB1ON,
Thank you. Well, for once I might have made a good guess. Do you know if St. David's is still an active church? And if there is a way to access their parish records? Others on this site have searched the records for St. Martins parish and found nothing. Now I'm hoping my grandfather was baptized in St. David's. If this is so and we find him, this will be a major jump over a brick wall that has been there for years. My grandfather claimed to be a member of the Church of England. His birth certificate states he was born on 04 May 1886 at 6 Bishop Street. The mother's maiden name on the certificate is l Mary Ann Clarke, occupation housekeeper. There is no father listed. And that's all I know about his parents. Maybe the baptismal records will give additional information. Thank you again for your help.

St David's must have gone a long, long time ago....
Parish Records are at Birmingham Library for St David's Church,...
Baptism records held are from 1865 - 1945.

There are a few records for St David's at this web site,
https://warwickshire-info.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htm
But nothing of use to you..... :(

Baptism's & Parish registers are something i haven't grappled with yet,... Maybe someone else could offer some help?

Good luck in your search.

Thanks, Bill. I really appreciate your help. I emailed the Birmingham Library this morning and requested information on records and the fees involved. I'll take a look at the site you suggested. Thanks again,
Don

Hi Don

Can't help with looking at the parish records for St Davids until later in the year but I would be happy to have a look for you next time I am up in Brum (probably not until November)

My great grandmother was born 25 Bishop Street in 1887, bet they knew each other!

Helen

Hello Helen,
Wouldn't it be great if they did know each other. I look forward to talking with you again in November. (I'm afraid it's going to be a long 4 months) but after waiting almost 60 years, what's 4 months, right? Thanks for your help in advance.
Sincerely,
Don
