Hi,
I'm looking for the birth record of George Frederick Clarke, born 04 May 1886, in Birmingham, St. Matin sub-district, Warwick. His mother's name was Mary Ann Clarke and lived at 6 Bishop Street. Don't know the name of his father. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could not find a baptisim record at St Martins as the date you have given is a birth date. These are sometimes recorded in the records but not the search engine.

Thank you, Chris & Wendy,
After I receive the certificate, is there any way to determine what happened to that family? I've looked on the 1891 and 1901 censuses and found nothing concerning them? Of course there are other records available, but I don't know which ones to pursue. I kow the mother's name and address at time of George's birth, but that's all. Any suggestions?

i would suggest get the certificate then we will know fathers name, then may be able to find marriage as mothers maiden name will also be on the certificate so we will hopefully find their ages.

there are so many clark/clarkes that we will need all this info to find them in 1891 and 1901.

Hi Chris,
Many many years, ago, about 50, I was in possession of a birth record for George Frederick Clarke. It showed Mary Ann Clarke as mother, with no father listed. It also gave the mother's address as 6 Bishop Street, and occupation as House Keeper. When I posted my query I was hopping that perhaps the actual record of St. Martin might show something different, or even something more that I had originally received. I have tried all of the traditional ways that I know of to find additional info, but have not had any success. If you have any other suggestions, other than traveling to Birmingham, on where I might look, I would appreciate them. Travel of that kind is way over my budget.
Thanks for your help and understanding,
Don

In 1881 there is a family named Clark living in Bishop street,in the 1891 they have moved to Rea Street and the name is spelt Clarke and only the youngest son Edwin is with them.
Does the birth certificate give any occupation for Mary.

My guess would be that Mary Clarke married after the birth of George 1886 and before 1901 and he is being called by her husbands surname.

1881.

Hi again,:)
George Frederick Clarke was (is) my grandfather. I have his marriage certificate to Olga Hansen in which he says Albert Edward Clarke was his father and Mary Jeans his mother. I can't find any record of a Jeans or Clarke marriage. If he were being called, as you suggest, by Mary Ann's husband's name, why would he keep the name Clarke as his surname throughtout his life? Please, the suggestions are wonderful and I'm grateful for any feedback at all.
