Birmingham Vehicle Registration Records?

Hi,

I have a 1971 Triumph Spitfire IV I'm trying to trace records on - can anyone tell me if the vehicle records still survive? The original number was a Birmingham issue from March 1971: XOE***J

The car has been untaxed since 1980, so the DVLA want proof that the XOE***J is the original number plate before re-issuing it.

have you tried edmund st? local taxation office its hard to find anything about old reg numbers relating to specific vehicles unless you can prove it is the original reg? good luck

I've contacted Birmingham records, but sadly it appears all of the registration records were destroyed in the 1980s when the building they were kept in was demolished. What a shame

When I saw your question the other day I emailed Autocheck to ask how far their records go back, they've replied this morning saying that if you give them a call on this number with the car details they'll be able to confirm. Worth a try maybe.
