knowlegable brummie
A few years ago my youngest son Jamie was doing consultancy work for the court system for the Department of Justice in Birmingham. Through this work he visited the Crown Prosecution Service offices in London regularly. On one such visit a member of the House of Lords invited Jamie and a guest for lunch to that historic place. I was the guest. Down we went from Birmingham to London Virgin first class. We attended a business meeting first and then a taxi ride over to the house. We were given a guided tour which including the galleried area above the chamber. Lunch was a surreal experience. Here we sat surrounded by very powerful people casually chatting and enjoying their lunch. Five of us sat around the table individually served by our own waiter - it was surreal. I ordered a delightful Dover Sole which was delicious ! Never in a million years could I have imagined me an " old Brummie " born in Handsworth in my late seventies being wine and dined by a Lord of the realm. An experience never to be forgotten.
