This is a list recommending Birmingham hotels for visitors. These were from 1961. Not heard of the Winter Garden Hotel on Broad Street before. Funny that a hotel like the Bingley Hall Hotel is listed with only 9 beds, this wouldn't even register on such a list today.

The Albany in 1967- state of the art hotel accommodation at the time.

By the 1970s, the Imperial Hotel had become the New Imperial Hotel.

i had a part time job as a porter at the royal angus hotel when i got married in 1971. i had to wear a maroon suit with a yellow stripe on the leg (no hat thank goodness):(
i met lots of celebs and singers englbert and wife were nice they gave me a tenner one sat night when i was on cloakroom duty. on nights i manned the phone sys it was a old type like the pic but when some one picked up a phone in a room a buzzer sounded and a disk fell showing the number lot of free demo samples from the business conferences that they did not want to take back at the end of day:grinning:

Paragon Hotel is a magnificent Victorian Gothic style six-storey hotel. It was built in 1903 as Rowton House and was originally owned by Lord Rowton.





Rowton House was built by Lord Rowton to provide decent hostel accommodation for migrant workers arriving from Ireland withthe offer of work in Birmingham’s factories.

Paragon Hotel - History and Heritage of Birmingham​

The building fell into disuse in the 1960s and in 1993, it was was relaunched as a 250 room hotel named The Paragon Hotel.
The building is Grade II listed.

As stated earlier my dad, worked at the Imperial Hotel, part time in the bar, and met a few celebrities of the day, he apparently became very friendly with "Rod Laver", a tennis star of the day, who gave him, a couple of his polo shirts , white with a red emblem on them, I seem to remember, I wore these for a couple of years for school PT. !!
 
man wrote a letter to the manager "He wrote":


“I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?”
An immediate reply came back from the hotel owner, who wrote:


“Dear Sir …I’ve been operating this hotel for many years now, and in all that time, I’ve never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I’ve never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly, and I’ve never had a dog run out on a hotel bill.
"Yes indeed, your dog is very welcome at my hotel and if your dog will vouch for you, you’re welcome to stay here, too.”
