Birmingham 1945 now on Google Earth

Google Earth has now added a 1945 aerial view of Birmingham (not sure when it was done but I have only just got th hear about it).

If you have never used Google Earth before:

Download Google Earth and install it.

https://earth.google.co.uk/

Open Google Earth and type "Birmingham" in the search box to display map of Birmingham as it is now (you can use the slider on the right to zoom in and out).

Now select the "clock" icon on the task bar at the top (you have to be on Google Earth version 5 to get the clock).

You now get a slider which you can slide from right to left. If it is on the right hand side it is showing 2010, but as you go to the left it shows 2009, 2005, 2003, 1999 etc. and if you go fully to the left you get 1945.

Thanks also from from me. I had recently uninstalled GE because I didn't use it often, now I've got a really good reason to reinstall it....:)

Well I've had a play and although the 1945 picture quality isn't great and there are some slight positional errors, it's facinating to compare places.
I've looked at Bank Farm Arley where I had my first holiday in 1944 - Jean's van wasn't there then..
My play field in Gt Barr, now covered by the M6. The old ice rink !
Villa Park looks very different in 1945. Elmdon airport - the runways looked extendable then !
Thanks

Hi Kev,
I not too sure what you mean by 'did I use the download link'
If you mean the link in the 1st post in the thread - no.
If you mean a Google download link then I don't know of it.
One thing I notice with Google, is I seem to have somehow picked up their 'Instant' feature.
