Bird John Edward

Phil B

Made in Brum
Please can any one help? I’m new to this site and to researching my Family History. I'm trying to find the exact birth date of my great grandfather John Edward Bird. I know he was married on 9th May 1891, at the age of 24, to Ellen Norman and he died 11th March 1895, at the age of 27. So his birth was between the years 1866 and 1868. His father name was Thomas Bird. Before he was married I have an address of 28/- Brearley Street in the parish of St Georges and when married he lived in Key Hill, Hockley. His occupation was Brassworker, as was his father.
I’ve been to HandsworthCemetery and they search the records for both Handsworth and Warstone Lane cemeteries but to no avail. I’ve also contacted the Friends of Key Hill Cemetery and again no luck. To any one who can cast some light on this I will be very grateful.

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

From the information in the 1891 census (which I've posted but seems to have disappeared?) he was born in 1865 - his age is given as 26 in there.
Bird, John Edward, 3rd quarter 1865, Aston volume 6d page 246
get that certificate and the actual date will be on it.

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

There is a John Edward Bird registered in Aston in 1865 July August September period in the County of Warwickshire Volume 6D page 246. You would need to send for birth certificate from GRO on line for the certificate which will cost you £7. It will give you date and mothers and fathers name.

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

Hi Lloyd,
Thanks for the quick reply. The only thing I'm not happy with this is the year of birth is to early. According to 2 certificates (marriage and death) he was born between 1866 and 1868, not 1865.

Mount Pleasant is still here, off the Coventry Rd. Bordesley was part of Aston Borough in those days.

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

Thanks to all so far, Lloyd, Ladylinda, Lynda.
It looks like I have 3 possibilities
1. John born 1865 whose parents are Thomas and Louisa
2. John born 1865 whose parents are Thomas and Elizabeth
3. John born 1866 whose parents are Thomas and Elizabeth
From the information you have all sent so far is this correct? Or have I misinterpreted it?
How do I know which one is right?
Is there any way of pinning this down further?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

Phil. I would go with 65 as the 1871 census from Lady Linda would still imply a 1865 birth, as the census was before his sixth birthday. I'll just have a look at the later census and see what I can find

Re: Search for John Edward Bird

Can't find anymore from the census. No Thomas and Elizabeth anyway. So its back to the drawing board I'm afraid.
